National Day of Mourning Festivals and Events

7:00 AM

On this Day of Mourning, flags at Town facilities are being flown at half-mast. Marked annually in Canada on April 28, the National Day of Mourning is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy.

Last year in Ontario, 208 people were killed at work or died from an occupational disease.

The National Day of Mourning is a day to remember and honour those lives lost or injured due to a workplace tragedy, and a day to collectively renew our commitment to improve health and safety in the workplace an prevent further injuries, illnesses and deaths.

At sunset this evening, the CN Tower and the 3D TORONTO sign in Nathan Phillips Square will be lit in yellow, traditionally a colour of hope, as a visible tribute to the Day of Mourning.

The WSIB has created a website where people can view and share a special video, and write a tribute for a loved one or co-worker who has been killed on the job or has been affected by a workplace tragedy.
